Introduction
Aerial Cableway Hartbeespoort is currently recruiting for a General Manager to join their dynamic team.
Scope and General Purpose:
To control, manage and maintain operational standards of the departments under his/her control, and to ensure that all departments adhere to the prescribed company & client standards and that the highest levels of guest and staff satisfaction are always achieved.
Overseeing daily business activities, improving overall business functions, training, coaching and mentoring heads of departments, managing budgets, ensuring complying with health and safety, developing strategic plans, creating policies and communicating business goals, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Crafting a strategic vision for the cableway
- Develop and implement business plan for profitability, and to support the company’s financial objectives.
- Effective business strategy implementation and contribution.
- Maintain a healthy stakeholder relationship and engagement.
- Managing the financial and operational performance of the business as per the group strategy and approved budget.
- Proactively managing of operational costs and budgets.
- Ensuring compliance with all Cableway related legislation, regulation, procedures and performance matters, incl. SHEQ.
- Plan, coordinate and manage all business operations to achieve corporate goals.
- Ensuring each department delivers on their departmental objectives.
- Assist in budget preparation and expense management activities.
- Sustain current industry position and growing industry share.
- Identifying business opportunities with new and existing customers.
- Shaping the work environment – improving internal processes and ensuring employees work as a cohesive team/unit.
- Ensure a motivated workforce.

- Identifying and managing retention risks.
- Ensure succession plan is updated annually.
- Review policies and procedures and the formulation of policies as and when needed.

- Submit monthly, quarterly, and any other related reports as requested by management.
- Planning activities and resources to ensure uninterrupted operations 7 days a week.
- Oversee and effective management of the cableway operations, including facilities management.
- Oversee and effective management of the administration, HR and finance function.
- Implementation and execution of the marketing strategy developed and approved by the Board.
- Oversee and effective management of other business opportunities as they are added to the property.
- Implementation and management of effective cash control, inventory and fixed asset systems.
- Ensuring the property is effectively staffed for the different seasons thus maximising service levels and profitability.
- Ensure employees have access to the required tools, equipment, materials etc., to perform their tasks to the required standards.
- Maintain good working relationships with other tourist attractions and the greater Hartbeespoort community.
- Maintain and develop an understanding of all the technical and SHEQ requirements in relation to the cableway operations.
- Monitor and ensure that all required daily, monthly, yearly etc., maintenance, maintenance checklists and records are maintained in line with relevant standards and legislation.
- Ensure all required SHEQ and other cableway legislative appointments have been made and are maintained in line with the relevant legislation.
- Ensure emergency protocols are developed, maintained, tested and updated on a continuous basis.
- Develop and implement actions to conserve natural resources and manage pollution.
- Ensure that the required insurance policies are in place to mitigate all identified operational risks.
Skills, Experience & Educational
- Grade 12 certificate
- Applicable tertiary qualifications preferably in food and beverage/ tourism management/ financial/ project/ an advantage
- 5 – 10 years’ management experience in tourism or related businesses an advantage
- Valid Code 8 driver’s license
- Self managed
- Knowledge of employment law
- Technical ability in relation to Cableway an advantage
