Learnership Overview
The South Deep Gold Mine is offering aspiring Employees and prospective Applicants from within our Host Communities interested in pursuing a career in Engineering, the opportunity to enter into a formal Engineering Learnership programme. This is an opportunity to bring your expertise to a dynamic and engaged team of professionals, working together to become the beacon of pride for our people, our communities, our stakeholders, and our shareholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Undergoing technical training as prescribed by MQA and short courses as required by the mine during the Learnership Maintain consistent performance
- Initiating developmental discussions
- Seeking feedback
- Adhering to the company`s conditions of employment, policies and code of conduct
- Abide by all health and safety rules / regulations applicable on the mine
- Promoting of teamwork and being an effective team member
- Wearing all the prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) while on mine/ at the training centre
- Abide by the values of South Deep Gold Mine i.e. safety, integrity, respect, responsibility, innovation, and collaborative delivery
Minimum Requirements
To qualify as an Applicant from a Host Community you must:
- Be a resident of one of our Host Communities being Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, Jachtfontein and Westonaria Borwa
- Successfully passed the 4 x N3 Trade specific subjects as required by both the MQA and South Deep mine and as noted below.
- Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment
The programme offers practical work-based training and external technical training to enable learners to adapt effectively in the world of work and to qualify as artisans at the end of their programme.
Available Learnerships
The following Learnership Opportunities are open for Applications:
Boilermaker / Plater Learnership
- Grade 12 with Maths and Science
- Be in possession of full N3 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Mechano Technology Trade theory and Platers and Structural Steel Drawing
Fitter Learnership
- Grade 12 with Maths and Science
- Be in possession of full N3 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Mechano-Technology Trade theory and Engineering Drawing
Millwright Learnership
- Grade 12 with Maths and Science
- Be in possession of full N3 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Relevant Trade theory and Engineering Drawing (Mechanical trades) or Industrial Electronics
- Millwright learners must have 2 trade theory subjects N3 level (Electrical & Fitting) plus 3 other subjects
Electrician Learnership
- Grade 12 with Maths and Science
- Be in possession of a full N3 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Electrical Trade theory and Industrial Electronics
