Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for a Head in the Bioprocessing Group. The successful candidates must demonstrate ability to add value in line with Mintek 2030 Strategy by assuming the line management responsibilities of the Bioprocessing Group within the Biometallurgy Division, leading a group of scientists and engineers in the execution of major technical projects in which interactions with clients and technical experts are required at an expert technical level and to provide technical expertise and guidance to the Group and Division in areas such as bioleaching and bioprocessing of mine effluents and metal waste.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ascertain needs and trends in the industry and develop and execute appropriate research programmes to ensure long-term sustainability of the Group by ensuring innovative and relevant R&D is undertaken aimed at maintaining current technologies and producing new technologies in line with the Division’s long-term plans.
- Ensure that the Group’s undertakings are aligned and in support of the Division’s overall business plan.
- Strengthen and expand the Group’s technical abilities and capacity.
- Assist the divisional manager by active participation in marketing the Division’s services and obtain sufficient business from, and in collaboration with, other governmental departments, Science Councils and the mining / metallurgical industry.
- Must have the skill to write applications for research grants both locally and internationally, as well as commercial proposals.
- Remain informed at an expert technical level with technology and business in the areas of the Division’s work.
- Prepare and monitor project plans and budgets, and produce professional technical reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences.
- Ensure that safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) procedures are strictly adhered to, and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency.
- Supervise and provide guidance, mentorship and training to Group and Division members.
- Demonstrate through behaviour the values and vision of Mintek thereby promoting discipline, competence, confidence and harmony within the Group and Division.
Desired Experience & Qualification
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
· Typically, 5-8 years’ relevant research involvement and outputs in an R&D environment.
· At least 3-5 years’ experience in leading a team of researchers and laboratory staff.
· Good administrative skills.
· Good project management skills.
· Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills.
· Leadership skills and experience of managing researchers are essential.
· Ability to work independently and in teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum requirement: MSc related to bioprocessing of minerals, mine effluent and metal waste.
· DSc or PhD will be advantageous.
